My Story

Professional Development Specialist & Public Works Executive

With nearly two decades in public works, I've evolved from an accounting specialist to an executive director, developing expertise across finance, human resources, and organizational leadership. My passion lies in cultivating employees at all levels and empowering individuals to reach their full potential.

Professional Experience

As Director of Finance and Human Resources, I oversee not only the finances within our organization but also the training, development, hiring, discipline, and other human resource functions. My career progression through accounting, finance, and human resources has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of public works operations from multiple perspectives. This broad knowledge base allows me to identify organizational challenges and implement effective solutions.

My proudest professional achievement has been establishing a leadership development program within our organization. This initiative has provided “soft skill” training to multiple groups of employees, allowing opportunities for advancement for several. The program emphasizes that leadership transcends titles—it's a mindset essential at every level, both professionally and personally.

Education & Professional Development

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Western Michigan University and am completing a Master's in Human Resource Management at Central Michigan University. My formal education, combined with extensive hands-on experience and specialized training, informs my approach to leadership development and organizational management.

Professional Affiliations

I serve as Treasurer for the Michigan Chapter of the American Public Works Association and am a recipient of their prestigious Hal Halquest Award for dedication and service. Additionally, I chair the Road Scholar program and am actively involved in both the Michigan Public Services Institute (MPSI) and Midwest Advanced Public Services Institute (MAPSI) committees, helping provide development opportunities for hundreds of public works professionals annually.

Beyond the Office

When I'm not developing people or managing public works initiatives, you'll find me enjoying life in rural Michigan with my amazing husband, John, and our two sons, Jeremy (19) and Colton (13). Balancing family responsibilities with professional ambitions keeps me energized and grounded.

Life isn't always perfect—I face the same daily challenges as anyone juggling multiple responsibilities—but I approach each day with gratitude and enthusiasm. This positive outlook informs my leadership philosophy: acknowledging challenges while focusing on solutions and opportunities.

My personal experiences as a parent, partner, and community member enrich my professional perspective, allowing me to bring authentic, relatable insights to my training and coaching work. I truly believe in the power of genuine connection, both in personal relationships and professional development.

Philosophy & Approach

I believe every individual has potential waiting to be unlocked. Through personalized coaching and targeted training programs, I help individuals and teams discover their true potential and apply it effectively. My approach combines practical experience with evidence-based methods to create sustainable results.
